I find myself being descriptive about the details and that is something I have to change if I want to make animations, movies, or games. I tend to be long winded and need to give the backstory and details to excess, this often times adds too much time and then people can lose interest. I think this quark would also make my movies 5 hours long.
My plan is to practice shorting my stories to fewer details and let the listener/viewer/player fill in the gaps or ask questions as needed. This will take some work.

This was the merger of a fantasy drawing (Final Fantasy) and a real photo of a strip mine. I wanted to make it look like the inhabitants had carved away most of the mountain until it was close to destabilizing the castle. Problems i had to overcome was the light source was from different directions on both images so I flipped the photo but not the mask, which already outlined the castle behind it. Next was removing the airplanes which was easy with the stamping tool. Then I had to change the colors of the strip mine photo to match the castle rendering, this was accomplished with a box shaded with an eye dropped color from the rendering. I also used the brush to remove some of the box shade to highlight some of the orange color of the strip mine to ad some orange continuity with the castle blocks. Lastly was the lettering which the band name Torch was cut during the cropping process but I liked it so I left it. I wanted torch to standout but still appear organic to the picture. I also did a cut layer of the castle to place over the title to give a 3d appearance. The album title Digital Scar I tried to use letter that gave a digital feel and color but still tie it to the strip mine by reducing the opacity of the lettering. Also they side benefit of the 3D lettering was a shadow on the rock underneath. I do like the end result minus the band name being cut off but even that is growing on me.
I really like the functionality of Illustrator it seemed like the intuitiveness is much smarter than photo-shop. I like the flexibility to create and change things. The selection tools are much nicer and it feels like illustrator = windows users, where photo-shop = apple. This project was tough to get started because I have not had to think of a brand logo until now. That said I didn't want to just throw something together and submit it for points reasons. I wanted to take the time and make it something I would use for years to come and not something to have until the end of class. I do like the product I made, until I have to scale it to different sizes at which point the transform on the cog teeth does not scale properly, not sure if that is because it is measured in inches vice pixels. I need to figure out how to change things to pixels as a default. Why did you choose the colors you did on the color set?
I was thinking of autumn or thanksgiving. Do you have a least favorite color? What is it and why is it your least favorite? Baby-poop yellow, it makes my sense recall the smell, texture, and mess that comes with baby-poop. How might color enhance the design process? Color can be a source of inspiration and can be a way to recall events or emotions. It can enhance the feel of a object or make it ugly. A red heart shape is expected and reminds us of love. A pink heart might also remind us of love but maybe more like love of family rather than romantic. A green heart might make you think of zombies or toxic love. A black heart might make you think of death or hate. Do you feel you are creative? Why or why not?
I do feel creative but not in the way most would define it. I like to think that I can break things down to their components and reassemble them in a different way to make a product better or a different product. When do you feel you are the most creative? I am most creative when I fully understand how something works and then have time to re-examine how things function, that time is usually when everyone in the house is asleep(10pm - 3am). What are you most passionate about and how does it relate to your ability to be creative? I am most passionate about intimate relations with my wife, but I don't think that's the answer you were looking for. Second most passionate would be gaming, I have always enjoyed games of all kinds. The types of games I started playing had the flexibility to create characters, scenarios, and different worlds. This expanded my imagination quickly. I play more console/mobile games now with limitations and I wonder what would happen if I was able to change X to Y inside the game. This sparked the interest to start developing my own games and bring my experience from life, mechanics, and gaming into the digital world to share. |
